According to the United States Census Bureau, Calhoun has a total area of 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2), of which, 1.0 square mile (2.6 km2) of it is land and 1.00% is water.
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 491 people, 189 households, and 123 families residing in the city. The population density was 496.5 people per square mile (191.5/km²). There were 211 housing units at an average density of 213.4 per square mile (82.3/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.35% White, 0.81% Native American, 1.02% Pacific Islander, and 0.81% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.20% of the population.
There were 189 households out of which 34.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.9% were married couples living together, 10.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.4% were non-families. 31.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.31.
In the city the population was spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 23.2% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
